west coast vacation // slo + la

as we continued our drive down the coast of california we made a stop at hearst castle. i can't even  begin to describe this magnificent estate so i'll let the pictures do the talking!

our next stop was san luis obispo to visit our good friends, kyle and niki. we had a relaxing afternoon lounging by the pool and exploring slo! i could definitely get used to the west coast pace of life.

after a day and a half in slo we started to make our way to la. we made a pit-stop in santa barbara and all i kept thinking was, 'i can't imagine that some people get to call this place home!' i wish we had more time to explore but we were lucky to have niki, who went to school there, show us some highlights!

from there we headed to la and arrived by the late afternoon. i was pretty excited as we drove into the city because i had never been to la before. we stayed at the sls hotel in beverly hills which was definitely an experience! after exploring the hotel we got ready for dinner at the jose andres restaurant, bazaar. since we live in dc we are used to the jose andres family of restaurants, however, the bazaar was beyond amazing. every single course was out of this world and so so so unique! i couldn't believe how different the menu was from the restaurants in dc.
the next morning we decided to do the touristy thing and explore the city via the hop on hop off bus. la was the one area we didn't have any local friends to help show us around so this seemed like our best option and overall i felt like i got a good feel for the city.

yes... all of that food was for two people (from pink's hotdogs!) ... but when you wait in line for an hour you have to make it worth it!!

on our way out of town we briefly stopped in santa monica and venice beach. i wish we had more time to spend in each spot but i am thankful we at least had time to fit them in!

west coast vacation // big sur

the next part of the west coast trip led us to big sur. i knew we'd be in for a treat based on everything our friends had told us, but i definitely didn't realize just how beautiful the drive would be. we found ourselves pulling off into almost every 'view point' just to get another look at the breathtaking views. we also found ourselves saying... 'why doesn't the east coast anything like this?"
even though i love the outdoors, i wouldn't exactly consider myself 'outdoorsy'. that being said it was pretty funny to pull up to our tent/cabin in big sur. i think i lucked out though because our conestoga wagon (as i liked to call it) was actually very nice and clean.

we stopped at a few of state parks along the way and attempted the many hikes and trails that were available. it felt so nice to be outside and really explore the area on our own!

friday's fancies // tanked

tank tops are one of the easiest pieces to dress up or down... especially in the summer! after my younger sister and i created this look together we definitely have an itch to go shopping ;)

thanks to long distance loving for another great theme!

west coast vacation // san fran

the second stop of the west coast adventure was to san francisco. we stayed with my dear friends, vanessa and kevin, and were again spoiled to be with locals during our time there! i have been to sf before and remember thinking that it was a city i wouldn't mind living in. i felt the same way walking through the streets this time (except those hills were a bit steeper than i remembered!). below are a few photos from the whirlwind 36 hours we spent there!

since i had never been to alcatraz we decided to spend the morning there - which we both agreed was a great decision! if you have a chance and are in sf i would highly recommend checking it out!

i was very excited to see the painted ladies since i missed them the last time i was in sf!
checking out the city from a friend's rooftop!

amazing view on our way out of town!

long dress love

my older sister, lori, recently got a new camera so we decided to try it out! i bought this maxi dress at gap on a whim because of how long it was (a hard bill to fit when you are 5'10"). i can already tell i am going to love wearing it once it gets a little cooler out!

friday's fancies // stars + stripes

i'm glad to get back into the swing of friday's fancies. this week's theme is in line the july 4th holiday. hope everyone got to enjoy some fireworks and festivities!

romper // hat // sunglasses

after posting this i realized there aren't really any stars or stripes in this outfit (unless you count the 'stripe' of red on the hat). but i guess that's okay since i don't typically wear stars or stripes and i made the outfit! :)

west coast vacation // portland, oregon

portland was the first stop on my recent trip to the west coast. my good friends, mackenzie and joey, are currently living out there and they were gracious enough to host us for a couple of days. i loved every minute of the northwest adventure and was really impressed with all that portland had to offer! being shown around by locals was pretty nice too!
